CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Austin Peay State University women's track and
field team will send three athletes to the Georgia Tech Invitational,
Saturday, at Griffin Track.
Senior pole vaulters
Carrie Burggraf and
Molly Bartkiewicz, along with
junior sprinter and hurdler
Chiamaka Obi, will represent Austin Peay in
this event.
"Carrie and Molly are both solidly in (the East Region)," said head
coach
Doug Molnar. "For Obi, she's 83rd in the region, but just
six-tenths of a second from having a shot in the 400-meter dash. Just
concentrating on that, she should have a chance."
Burggraf and Bartkiewicz are currently 11th and 27th, respectively, in
the region.
"Carrie is at 13-5 and Molly is at 12-11, but I think they can go
higher," said Molnar. "I'd like to see them hit 13-6."
Obi, the OVC champion, will have a tougher battle than her teammates to
get to the regional.
"She needs to run a complete race," said Molnar. "There is no place to
rest when you're trying to shave off more than half a second."
