PHILADELPHIA, Penn. - Austin Peay State University women's
track and field team had a couple of strong showings on a national stage at the
Penn Relays, Thursday.
Senior pole vaulters Molly Bartkiewicz and Carrie Burggraf
recorded Top 10 finishes, coming in third and fourth, respectively, with 3.91
meter (12-10.00) marks; Bartkiewicz clinched third by virtue of a jump-off.
"To have medalists at such a prestigious event is excellent,"
said assistant coach Troy Morris. "We're very proud of them."
Senior Amanda McCoy tied for 14th in the high
jump with a 1.64 meter (5-04.50) height, while junior Chiamaka Obi finished 31st
in the 400-meter hurdles with a 1:01.46 mark in the sixth heat. The 4x100-meter
relay team of McCoy, juniors Candace Cullors and Candace Johnson and freshman
Cenitra Hudson earned a respectable 56th-place finish with a 48.11
second time.
"This was the first experience at the Penn Relays for all
these athletes and it was the experience of a lifetime," said Morris.
