Lady Govs earn national respect at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. - Austin Peay State University women's track and field team had a couple of strong showings on a national stage at the Penn Relays, Thursday.

Senior pole vaulters Molly Bartkiewicz and Carrie Burggraf recorded Top 10 finishes, coming in third and fourth, respectively, with 3.91 meter (12-10.00) marks; Bartkiewicz clinched third by virtue of a jump-off.

"To have medalists at such a prestigious event is excellent," said assistant coach Troy Morris. "We're very proud of them."

Senior Amanda McCoy tied for 14th in the high jump with a 1.64 meter (5-04.50) height, while junior Chiamaka Obi finished 31st in the 400-meter hurdles with a 1:01.46 mark in the sixth heat. The 4x100-meter relay team of McCoy, juniors Candace Cullors and Candace Johnson and freshman Cenitra Hudson earned a respectable 56th-place finish with a 48.11 second time.

"This was the first experience at the Penn Relays for all these athletes and it was the experience of a lifetime," said Morris.
