BETHLEHEM, Pa. (4/18/10)—Colgate University senior
Ashley Niness (Berwyn, Pa.) won the 400-meter hurdles Saturday to lead the women's track and field team at the Greyhound Invitational hosted by Moravian College.
Niness crossed the line first with a season-best time of 1:03.73; her time is also the fastest recorded in the Patriot League this season.
Niness was also the anchor leg of the 4x400-meter relay team of
Ali Atkinson (Weston, Conn.),
Amy Sleeper (New Hartford, N.Y.) and
Megan Snell (Beaverton, Ore.) who finished second overall with a time 3:58.98. The time is the third in the Patriot League.
Atkinson also competed in the 400-meter dash improving her season-best time to 58.99, which is eighth in the Patriot League this season.
The Raiders ran Friday night in the distance events at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University. Sophomores
Kendal Lyons (Wilton, Conn.) and
Chelsea Burns (Seattle, Wash.) set new personal-record times of 4:35.26 and 4:35.78 in the 1,500-meter run. The times are third and fourth in the Patriot League this season.
Colgate will compete in the Penn Relays this week. Action is set to begin on Thursday, April 22 at 11:00 a.m.
