NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Austin Peay State
University women's track and field team saw a blend of strong performances,
both on the track and in the field, this weekend at the Vanderbilt
Invitational.
Senior Carrie Burggraf was the big story in
the field events, settting a school record for outdoor pole vaulting with a
3.95 meter (12-11.75) mark, winning the event. That height moves Burggraf into
a tie for 17th-best pole vaulting mark in the region.
Classmate Molly Bartkiewicz finished second
with a 3.80 meter (12-05.50) height. Senior Amanda McCoy also had a nice
performance, finishing third in the high jump at 1.62 meters (5-03.75).
"McCoy was very clean in the high jump," said
head coach Doug Molnar. "The pole vaulters were outstanding, as they usually
are.
On the track, junior Chiamaka Obi set a
personal-best in the 400-meter dash with a 55.87 second time. McCoy was her
usual dual-threat self, finishing second in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.11
seconds. Junior Candace Cullors also contributed, finishing seventh in the
100-meter dash with a 12.76 mark.
"Obi and (sophomore) Janelle Avery set
personal bests for us today, so it was good to see that from them," said Molnar.
A contingent of Lady Govs also went to
Sewanee for the Mountain Laurel Invitational. Junior Courtney Jordan won the
discus (37.60 meters), the shot put (10.16 meters) and the javelin throw (30.67
meters) for the Lady Govs. Junior Jasmine Moody finished third in the 100-
(13.40) and 200-meter (26.61) dashes.
"We had a very good day at both places," said
Molnar. "We will try to take that momentum into next week's meet."
