Obi, pole vaulters enjoy success at Sea Ray Relays.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -Austin Peay State University limited women's track and field contingent more than measured up to the competition, Friday, at the Sea Ray Relays, earning several high marks and top-10 finishes.

"We had three top-10's in this meet," said head coach Doug Molnar. "Against this type of competition, that's outstanding."

The senior pole vaulting duo of Molly Bartkiewicz and Carrie Burggraf finished tied for fifth and seventh, respectively. Bartkiewicz finished with a 3.80 meter (12-05.50) mark, while Burggraf, in just her second meet back from injury, had a respectable 3.65 meter (11-11.75) height.

"Both pole vaulter's had the same kind of miss," said Molnar. "They each just barely hit the bar with an elbow. A lot of the higher-ranked pole vaulters had trouble today; it wasn't one of our best days, but top-10 finishes are still pretty good."

On the track, junior Chiamaka Obi had a blistering 1:01.86 mark in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing eighth. Senior Amanda McCoy had a season-high mark in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing 15th with a 14.16 second time. Sophomore Jasmine Scott also competed in the 400-meter dash, finishing 34th with a 58.30 mark.

"Obi set a personal best in the 400-meter hurdles," said Molnar. "She just keeps improving with each meet. McCoy had an outstanding time and she'll get under 14 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles before long. Jasmine keeps working hard and improving in the 400, which is a strong event for us; she will be a leader out there soon."
