CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.-For a second straight year, Austin Peay State University's cross country teams have been All-Academic by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative grade-point average.
The Lady Govs were one of a record-number 176 Division I women's programs to received the USTFCCCA honors this season. APSU's women recorded a 3.64 Fall GPA to rank 11th among those 176.
The Governors, whose 3.40 GPA ranked 30th-best among all programs, were one of 135 men's teams to earn such distinction.
"I think this speaks volumes for the type of student-athletes we have here at Austin Peay," APSU coach Doug Molnar said. "It goes to show you that our student-athletes perform not only on Saturdays (on the course), but also Monday through Friday in the classroom.
"We set a goal of have both teams finish in the top 50 in the country. The women finished 11th in the country-that is just incredible. That speaks a lot about the young ladies we have on this team.
"The men also were also outstanding at number 30 in the country. I am just so proud of all of our young men and women. They worked hard for this honor and they deserve the recognition that comes from this award.
