Day One at OVC Championships nets two silvers for Lady Govs

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Austin Peay State University women's track and field team had two silver medal-performances on Day One of the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships, Friday, at Tennessee State.

"We started the meet strong with two runner-up finishes," said head coach Doug Molnar. "I can't ask for any better than that."

Senior Amanda McCoy got the first silver for the Lady Govs, losing a jump-off at 1.63 meters (5-04.25). Freshman Leigha Tolliver earned the other, finishing second in the long jump with a 5.75 meter (18-10.75) mark. The duo also earned spots in the 55-meter hurdle finals tomorrow, with McCoy finishing at 8.15 compared to Tolliver's 8.22.

Other qualifiers for tomorrow's finals included junior Chiamaka Obi, who will participate in the 200-meter dash after finishing at 25.64 and in pole position of the 400-meter dash after finishing with a 56.52 in that event.

"We started the meet well and we have a good number of people going in the finals tomorrow," said Molnar. "It will be a fight from second to seventh place."
