Lady Govs track seeks improvement at Niswonger Invitational

CLARKSVILLE - Austin Peay State University women's track and field team looks for solid improvement from last week's season-opening meet at this weekend's Niswonger Invitational, hosted by East Tennessee State University.

"We should see great improvement between week one and week two," said head coach Doug Molnar. "Last week was all about getting back into things, which the girls did a great job doing; this week is about expectations."

Leading the Lady Govs into Johnson City will be the senior pole vaulting duo of Carrie Burggraf and Molly Bartkiewicz. Burggraf set the school indoor pole vault record at 3.85 meters (12-07.25) last week and will begin her quest to qualify for the NCAA Championships at this meet.

Senior Amanda McCoy will look to be a force on the track, in the hurdles, and in the field, in thehigh jump. The relay teams will look to improve on last week's ninth-place finish, while junior Chiamaka Obi will be a factor on the relay team and in the hurdles and sprints.

"The indoor season for us is too short to use a meet to round into shape this year," said Molnar. "With only four meets before the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships, we can't afford to mess around. We have to get to the top of our games as quickly as possible."
