For the third time this year, South Granville High School senior (NC) Shawnti Jackson broke a national high school record.
On Saturday, the University of Arkansas recruit shattered the previous high school national record for 100 meters, clocking a wind-legal time of 10.89 (+0.9) seconds at the Music City Track Carnival inside FirstBank Stadium at Vanderbilt University.
In doing so, Jackson became the third girl in high school history to run a 100 meter time under 11 seconds. She surpassed Briana Williams, who ran a time of 10.94 (+0.6) in 2019 at the Jamaican Senior Championships.
Jackson, who cruised into the finals with a preliminary performance of 11.18 seconds, also ran the sixth-fastest time in the World this year and ran a U.S. U20 No. 4 all-time performance.
Kortnei Johnson was second in 11.06, while Brittany Brown followed in 11.06.
Ivory Coast's Murielle Ahoure-Demps and Montverde Academy's (FL) Adaejah Hodge were also in the race. Ahoure-Demps was fourth in 11.09. Hodge finished seventh overall in 11.20 seconds.
Earlier this year, Jackson broke the 300m indoor record and re-set her 60m national record.
