Boys 100m Dash Heat 12
The initial plan on Saturday was to have our new Chattanooga-based contributor cover the meet on Saturday and shoot interviews. When his schedule changed, I decided to come and shoot race video instead and I'm glad I did. I have a tenuous grasp on Division II Class A and if you had asked me before Saturday if Notre Dame were in A or AA I would not have been able to tell you confidently. However, after watching Rickey MaplesJr sweep the short sprints on Saturday, it forced me to freshen up on my classifications. The senior opened the day with an 11.38 (above, just .02 off a PR) and closed the day with a 23.25. His 100m time is .40 better than his debut last year and his 200m time is 1.07 better. If he can follow the same trajectory as last season with his times, he could qualify in both short sprints this season and improve on his 7th place finish in the 200m dash.
