APSU Cross Country runs out the season at South Regionals

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Austin Peay State University men and women's cross country teams hopes to bounce back from an injury-riddled effort at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships at the NCAA Southeast Regionals, Saturday, in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The women's race will kick off at 10 a.m., followed by the women's race at 11 a.m.

On the men's side, sophomore Enock Langat and senior Andre Braima will need to run their best races of the season for the Govs to be competitive. The two weeks rest since the Championships has allowed the Govs a chance to get some runners healthy again. The men's race will be 10-kilometers featuring 30 teams, including host Alabama, Florida State and Auburn as well as OVC foes Jacksonville State, Tennessee Martin and Tennessee Tech.

"We're still kind of banged up, but we're going with what we've got," said head coach Doug Molnar. "This is our first 10-kilometer race of the season and we want to go out on a high note."

For the women, sophomore Janelle Avery will need a much better race than she ran at the OVC Championships. Senior Shamai Larsen and freshman Alyssa Molnar will need career days to help the Lady Govs, who will compete in the six-kilometer race against Florida, Florida State and Tennessee as well as OVC rivals Jacksonville State and Tennessee Martin.

"We just want to go out and run the best we can," said Molnar. "The object of this meet is to end the season on a high note and get our young teams some experience in a big meet like this."
