Harpeth Hall, Christian Brothers: Why They Won D-II Class AA

Christian Brothers

First Since 2010

Last season, Christian Brothers came up just short of ending their team state championship drought in Track and Field finishing 18 points shy of beating McCallie. This year they were able to flip the script on the Blue Tornadoes and here's how.

The competition this season ultimately came down to team continuity. Michael May, Nicolas Robinson, and Eric Rivers each scored 20 or more individual event points for McCallie last May while CBHS only graduated 15 points with the Class of 2021. They returned scoring threats in every discipline putting three people on the podium in the 100m Dash, 800m Run, Shot Put, and Discus.

Jaxon Hammond (2nd), Whit Collard (6th), and Charlie Harrell (7th) scored 13 points to McCallie's 4 in the 100m Dash. All three sprinters will be returning in 2023.

While the sprint event category will mostly remain in tact heading into next season, the other event areas of the meet will have some different faces head into 2023. Christian Brothers will graduate eight seniors who contributed in individual events including two legs on a 4x800m relay team that won (Jake Ryan and Parker Russ), Dallan Hayden who finished 2nd in the 400m Dash, and BJ Robinson and Patrick Kutas who finished 2nd and 3rd (and 4th and 3rd) in the Shot Put and Discus. Even with all this turnover, Coach Dwyer and the Brothers will again have a say in how the awards are handed out next May and we look forward to covering the meet again next season. Congratulations to him and Christian Brothers in the meantime.
