So when I first did this list I included Jazzlyn and Calysta Garmer into a "Freshman and Under" category which yielded 41.5 points but then thought that was a little inaccurate and skewed so I took them out but don't forget, if Claire Stegall of Nolensville never gets injured, freshmen go 1-2 in the final state rankings. For me this just brings up a question I've had all season while looking at rankings on "when is a girl runner's prime?" There was a point about a month out from state where nine out of the top ten Juniors this season had not run better than their sophomore PR. Boys will likely continue a trend downward while most female runners will experience a slump or flatline year that male runners will not. It's important to consider when we look at the state results and see top five teams with four freshmen in their top five and immediately crown them as the heir apparent and it doesn't bear out of the next three seasons.
Arlington's Ann-Marie Braese improved every week this season. She opened the season at 18:43 and cut down her time to 18:06 at Sanders Ferry which is a 5 second improvement over last season's time.
