Watch: Tennessee Athletes Shine at AAU Junior Olympics

AAU Junior Olympics

Before we completely shut the door on the 2021 Track and Field season I wanted to highlight some Tennessee performances that occurred at the AAU Junior Olympics in early August. Since it was live-streamed on MileSplit, all the race footage has been cataloged. That said, if you follow our Instagram I tried to highlight anyone who was at this event or the USATF National Junior Olympic Championship who mentioned us in a post or in a story. As someone who isn't very familiar with the Club Track landscape, it was hard to follow both accurately and I know I'm going to miss some in this process but there are some performances I wanted to highlight and touch on their potential impact moving forward.

Jon Coulter runs 4:10 in the 1500m

The 800m run seems to be the distance Jon Coulter has the most success in (4th at State last year) but he may have an impact in the 1600m as well. He placed 5th in the Section 3 Championship last year clocking a 4:30 but with Ally, Vanderkolk, and Hurst all graduating that 5th turns into a second best man returning. Since the 400m/800m double is likely undoable, the 1600m/800m seems to be his next best option though he also broke 50 in the open 400m this club season. He'll be a fun one to track and see if he can make state this fall in cross country to really cement to recruiters his range as a runner.
