TSSAA State Championship Events to Watch: Small Division I

Small Division I - Girls

Triple Jump

There are two reasons this event interests me. First reason is to see East Nashville's Jayln Rice. She's the defending champion in both horizontal jumps and her mark of 38-3.5 in 2019 sits 37th All-Time in Tennessee history. She hasn't set a new PR since that mark but it seems as though the State Meet stage really brings out the best in her. We could see a new TN #1 before running events start on Tuesday.

The second reason is the exact same reason I'm interested in the 200m dash as well.

200m Dash

In 2019, the thing that really kept Signal Mountain from pulling even with East Nashville in the team standings is while Signal would place multiple girls in the distance events, East would do the same in the field and sprints... and there are more of those than there are races two laps or over. That's not the same this year. While Signal is still bringing the needed distance team to score points in their bread and butter events, Signal has qualified girls in to nearly every event East has competitors highlighted by Junior Kara Wilson who is seeded number one in the Triple and the 200m Dash. If Signal is going to end the night atop the podium as a team, they're going to need Wilson to get there as well before the night is over. This should be a great team competition to follow as it was two years ago.

Kara Wilson looks to improve on her 7th place finish in the Triple Jump from 2019.
