Club Runners return for Brentwood

I pointed out on Tuesday that the 4x800m time Brentwood posted at March Madness will likely be a top 5 time for the remainder of the season. Now I know why. Anna Banovac and Sofia Rutherford are running scholastically again. While running club in the previous two seasons, they were part of indoor relay teams that hold the state record in the 4x800 and 4xMile. Add these two runners to a distance squad that won the XC Championship and on paper that Farragut 9:12 State Record may be in jeopardy. Going for a state record in the first event of the State Championship may affect too many down-meet performances that it would cost you just that... a state championship. This is an interesting wrinkle to an already deep team. Prior to this weekend Banovac sat in the #1 spot for the 800m. Here she is after her race:

After this weekend, Banovac still sits 3rd behind Jenna Hutchins (2:13) and Zoe Arrington (2:17) who eclipsed her time at the Tri-Cities Classic. In comparable weather, I think Banovac and Rutherford can compete with anyone at the 800m distance. This is definitely a distance to pay attention to as qualifying starts in a month on who will try to focus in and who will try to race them all.
