Jenna Hutchins Runs Another Record-Setting 5K in SC

Jenna Hutchins added another exclamation point to an already incredible year.

The Science Hill High School junior ran a 15:34.37 5k in Columbia, South Carolina on Friday night. And she beat an incredible field of professional and high school athletes in the process.

Her time smashes the high school national record, breaking Katelyn Tuohy's indoor time of 15:37.12 that she ran back in 2018.

And now she's the ninth high schooler to break 16 minutes on an outdoor or indoor track.

Hutchins also broke the American U20 outdoor record with her historic performance on Friday night. And as Milesplit's Cory Mull writes, she's the only high school girls athlete to ever break 16 minutes in the 5k more than once across cross country and track.

A state record holder. A national high school record holder. And now an American U20 record holder.

Stay tuned for more coverage from another historic night for track & field's biggest rising star.
