The TSSAA will start handing out another state championship in track starting in 2022.
On Monday during its board of controls meeting in Murfreesboro, the TSSAA voted to add a third public school classification for track and field.
But here's the catch - the same number of athletes will still compete in the state championship.
The A and AA classes will bring eight athletes to the state meet in each event.
AAA will continue to bring 16 athletes in each event.
The TSSAA will divide the three classes once enrollments become official. Once those are submitted, they will announce where each school will compete, starting with the 2021-2022 school year.
