Her mark is just off Robin Reynolds 2:02.40 Freshman Outdoor National Record and Mary Decker's 2:02.29 15 Year Old National Record.  Gorriaran set the Freshman Indoor National Record of 2:03.98 at the BU Last Chance meet.

Watch Gorriaran's 2:02.97 (1:59 mark)

Gorriaran ran her race, as the pace went out fast and the pacemaker gapped the field Gorriaran settled in at the back of the field during the opening 200m.  As the field would just be getting settled she had started moving up as the field approached 400m.

She would cross the 400m mark in around 7th in 1:00.73.  She'd continue to move up over the final 400m finishing just behind Sammy Watson for 5th place.

Despite just being a rising high school sophomore and just 15 years old, Gorriaran looked like she belonged in the field not being fearful against some of the countries to pros.

Gorriaran's mark just missed the US Top 10 All-Time as the freshman has certainly made the best of what will be a weird freshman year with no official track season.
