There wasn't much of a track season. But two runners have been honored for what they made of the short year.
Brevin Sims (Chattanooga Arts & Sciences) & Jenna Hutchins (Science Hill High School) have been honored as the Gatorade Players of the Year for track & field in the state of Tennessee.
For Hutchins, it's the third time she's been honored with this award.
Not bad for a sophomore.
She posted a 4:45.20 mile indoors this past winter, which ranked her fifth in the country. Her 10:28.37 3200 meter season-best was tenth in America as well.
This comes on the heels of a phenomenal freshman season, which included a state record at the 2019 Music City Distance Carnival.
Sims, who's headed to Syracuse University this fall, is perhaps the most-decorated hurdler in Tennessee history.
He is also a state record holder. His 13.68 110mH time last year is the all-time best in Tennessee history.
It's a shame he didn't get a chance to improve on that mark this season outdoors.
Sims' 7.76 60mH time led the nation this past indoor season as well.
He finishes his career as a nine-time state champion between indoor and outdoor state meets.
