The SCRunners Cross Country Series sponsored by Go-Green Events had one race this past weekend - the Eye Opener at the Milliken research facility in Spartanburg.  Over 70 South Carolina schools competed in the two varsity races.

Ronan O'Neill of Pendleton has emerged as the early front-runner for the boys.  Ronan won the GTC Tiger Classic last week and was fourth in the Eye Opener.  His forty-seven points is 10 points ahead of Cal Finley of Liberty.  In third is Casey Burr of Wade Hampton with 32 points.

Alexus Atkins of Landrum has 48 points from her first-place finish at the GTC Tiger Classic and third-place finish at the Eye Opener.  Elizabeth Rogers of Riverside and Macey Morgan of Mauldin are close behind with 43 points each.

In the team races, the Wade Hampton boys have a commanding lead over Southside and Fort Mill.  Wade Hampton leads with 45 points, nine ahead of Southside and eleven ahead of Fort Mill.  The girls' race has Riverside with 47 points, 11 ahead of Dorman's 36.  Wade Hampton is in third with 31.

This weekend will have two races on the SCRunners Series the Mike Moore Lake Murray Invitational in Chapin and the Warrior Invitational on Pawley's Island.  These races will add some more schools to the series and the points will add to the already accumulating numbers of the others.  The third week of the season will be an exciting and important one for the teams competing for the series championship.
