Recap: Dresden High School Invite

The excitement started on Tuesday when the meet was delayed from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. due to a heat advisory. The heat was quickly pushed out though by strong winds and dark storm clouds. At about 5:30, right before the meet was set to start, the rain began; thunder and lightning storms soon followed. The meet was delayed by 30 minutes three times before the race directors finally decided to call the meet and reschedule for Thursday (08/23) to follow the middle school meet.

Almost all the teams set to race the Invitational on Tuesday returned to run on Thursday except for the boy's and girl's squads from Henry County.

Thursday, like most west Tennessee afternoons, the temperature was in the upper 80s with very high humidity. The heat didn't bother Chester County's Evan Allen though, who led the race from the gun and won handily in an impressive 16:09. Don't miss our post-race interview with Allen posted on the video tab. Allen's teammate, Gideon McManus, finished in second place with a time of 17:38. The 1-2 finish from Allen and McManus paved the way for Chester County to take first place as a team. Huntingdon High School took second place.

The girl's race was dominated by Camden Central's Bailey Morris. The freshman ran away from the field to win in a big personal best of 21:04. Check out her interview posted on he video tab. Morris's win helped Camden Central secure an impressive second place finish. Madison Northern of Obion County took home second place in 22:39. Northern's second place finish pushed Obion County to a first-place team finish.
