1) What were some of the highlights of your high school cross country and track careers?

Some of my highlights from my high school career were qualifying for the state meet as a team during my sophomore year in cross country, qualifying for the state meet as an individual in cross country and track as a junior, placing third in the 1600 at the OATCCC Indoor State Championship this year, winning the 1600 at the OHSAA State Championship as a senior, and placing third at New Balance Nationals this summer.

2) Did you encounter any struggles or adversity along the way that you had to overcome?

In December of my junior year, I started to have a lot of pain in my foot. Due to this injury, I was in a boot for two months and missed out on my entire indoor season that year. This injury set me back for that year's outdoor season, but I was still able to train hard and qualify for the outdoor state meet in the 800.

3) Aside from the competition, what was the best thing about being apart of Beavercreek's program?

The culture of my cross country and track teams was so positive and encouraging. The teams were like a family to me, and they really helped cheer me on throughout my entire high school career.

4) Are there any coaches or teammates that you've worked with over the past four years that you'd like to thank?

Teammates I would like to thank are Ian Johnson, Sam Pearl, Ben Ewert, and Blake Martin for always looking out for me and for cheering me on. I would like to thank Coach Russ and Coach Weckesser for holding me to high standards and for never losing faith in me. They really helped me out and took care of me and for that I am very grateful.

(Riley Buchholz will be heading to Knoxville as part of a strong incoming freshman class that includes fellow Ohioan, Yariel Soto (Centerville).

5) What are your plans and goals for the future? Do you intend on continuing with the sport in college or in another capacity?

I will be attending the University of Tennessee to run cross country and track. My goals are to help improve my team and myself as an individual runner.

6) What advice would you give to a younger athlete who's hoping to have a successful and enjoyable high school career?

I would advise young athletes to be patient and to work hard. Success will come if you dedicate yourself and do the "little things."
