Kay Commands MCDC 800m Race with 1:51.76 Win

Ocala Vanguard senior and Tennessee signee, Alex Kay, has done more racing in the past few weeks than during his senior season.

The reason? Kay fractured a bone in his spine earlier in the year and has been fighting injury to come back during the regular season.

Now healthy and strong, Kay has shown an incredible progression in these past few months following his recovery.

The senior kicked off his season back in March, after six weeks and counting off from running. He ran a 1:59.88 at the Oak Hall Mini Meet. He followed that up with a 1:57 at districts, then a 1:54 at region, 1:53 at the FHSAA 3A state finals to place second, and finally a new PR of 1:51.76 to win at the Music City Distance Carnival this weekend.

Kay took the race out in a smooth 55.36 -- right behind Gabriel Robinson of Tennessee. He followed that up with a very strong a consistent 56.40 second lap to clock a 1:51.76 to win over Robinson who raced a 1:53.11. Alec Collado, of Miami Coral Park, was the next Florida finisher in a new PR of 1:54.42.

Up next for the Tennessee signee will be NB Nationals where Ocala Vanguard will go up against some of the best of the best 4x800m athletes in the nation and show them what strength the sunshine state has when it comes to middle distance.
