Great Eight starts Tuesday.
The eight best entries from Nashville will race at Vanderbilt University under the lights in one of the premier track events in Tennessee. You can watch it LIVE on Milesplit too.
Here are a couple names to remember in some of the big races of the night.
1. Boys 1600 Meter Run
Four sub-4:25 guys are entered in Tuesday night's 1600. David Ahlmeyer leads the pack. He ran 4:13 at the Early Bird Endurance Invite back in late March. That puts him No. 3 on the outdoor list in Tennessee right now. Cole Bullock has the top spot at 4:10. If the conditions are right, that mark could maybe be in jeopardy.
He'll be pushed by a really good field. Canaan Anderson and Miles Alley both have the ability to run sub-4:20 on the fast surface at Vandy. Jacob Hatcher has run 4:24 this season too.
A fast frontrunner can pull the pack with him. I'd expect lots of personal bests from this field.
UPDATE: Ahlmeyer is moving down from the 1600 to the 800. That could still mean a couple of fast distance events for the half mile and 1600.
2. Girls 4x100 Meter Relay
Northeast High School is the No. 2 girls 4x100 meter relay team in the state of Tennessee so far this outdoor season. They'll be gunning for the top spot on Tuesday night.
Maryville (47.52) currently holds the top spot. But again, on Vanderbilt's outdoor track, with good conditions, that mark might be in jeopardy. East Nashville won the Nashville City Championships in 49.12 over the weekend. That puts them as the fifth-fastest team in Tennessee.
We've got a good feeling that both of those teams will move up the leaderboard on Tuesday.
3. Boys 100 Meter Dash
Franklin Co. senior Michael Fuqua has the top time in the state for 100 meters this year. He won the Coffee County Invite in 10.64 earlier this month. He'll take on a fast group on Tuesday night.
Taylor Sheffield, Kariem Montague and Sterling Melancon will lead the chase pack. Sheffield is looking to get under 10.80 for the first time this outdoor season. He's the Williamson County champion. Montague has run 10.92 this season. Melancon is right below 11 seconds as well.
We may see three or four guys dip below 10.85 with good conditions.
4. Girls 100 Meter Hurdles
Kleymer Cruz and Avery McMullen are two of the best hurdlers in the state. They'll toe the line on Tuesday night.
Cruz only trails Brittany Bishop among senior hurdlers this outdoor season. Her 14.85 at McCallie puts her No. 5 on the Tennessee outdoor list this season. McMullen isn't far behind her. Her season best of 14.90 makes her the sixth-fastest hurdler in the Volunteer State right now.
It would probably take some tail-wind to push those two up to the TN No. 1 mark of 14.59. But you never know. Regardless, we may see some of the top two or three times in the state on Tuesday night.
5. Boys 200 Meter Dash
Colby Martin and Sterling Melancon are two of the only guys to break 22 seconds in the 200 so far this season. And they'll feature in a great field on Tuesday.
Martin was the Wilson County champion early this outdoor season. That's where he ran his season-best time of 21.88. Melancon was second in that race. He PRed in 21.98 at that competition.
The winner of this one is going to have to break 22 seconds. We could see either of those guys break the top five on our outdoor list.
6. Girls 100 Meter Dash
Mikele Vickers leads the way in a very talented field of sprinters for 100 meters. She's currently fifth on our outdoor leaderboard.
You'll also see Jordan Stromquist and McKenzie Williamson in this one. That trio will all be gunning for 12.10 or better. That's likely what it'll take to win in that talented group.
7. Boys 4x100 Meter Relay
Pearl Cohn will take the No. 2 4x100 meter relay team against a good group of competitors on Tuesday afternoon.
The Firebirds boast a 42.43 mark this season. They only trail Cleveland High School (42.14) on our outdoor list. They'll be gunning for the top spot. Mt. Juliet High School will also have a really good group of sprinters. The Bears are No. 5 in the state with a 42.83 that they ran earlier this month.
We're expecting four of the top ten teams in the state to be in action in this one.
8. Girls 4x400 Meter Relay
Brentwood has some fast sprinters and distance runners. Will they try and run a fast 4x400 on Tuesday night?
The Bruins are currently tenth in the state with a 4:09.32. We'll see if they go for an even faster time under the lights at Vanderbilt. Hillsboro, Ensworth and Ravenwood should all have some pretty quick teams there as well. It'll be a good way to finish off the meet.
