What are your overall expectations for the season?

Coach Seymour: "This season I expect the Lady Jaguars to always compete at the highest level possible."

Who are the top returners

"Tyra Nabors led the Jaguars. in 2018 scoring the majority of our points by winning the 300m hurdles, placing 2nd in the 100m hurdles, 4th in the pentathlon and anchoring both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay; As a sophomore we expect her to continue to excel in all of her events. The 2018 400m State Champion and 200m runner up Junior Breanna Miles is on track for another great season, She is expected to play a leading role in the success of the Jaguars this season. Sophomore LaMyria Robinson Stepped in last season and played a big role on a the 4x100 and 4x200 relays last year.  Watch for her in a new individual events this year."

Do you have any impact freshman or major transfers.

Freshmen Nyla BlackmonAliyah Duncan and Patrina Rogers are new to Southwind but are not new to track and field. These three will add depth to the Lady Jaguars Sprint Core. Nyla Blackmon is the TMSAA State Champion in 200m dash and currently holds the middle school state record. Look for her to be in the mix as the season progresses.

What meets are you keying in on this year?

The Jaguars will be tested at The Texas Relays at the end of March and will travel to the Swift and Staley Challenge in Paducah Kentucky toward the end of the Season. We will see how we compete against teams outside of the State of Tennessee in preparation to defend our 2018 State Title.

How has pre season training been going?

Pre-season training is on schedule. The Lady Jags placed 3rd as a team at the High School Indoor Track and Field Championships and are currently in position to have another great year. Our hope is that we are blessed with an injury free season.

What is the most important thing you want people to learn through track and field?

Track and field is more than running and competing. The lessons taught through the participation in track and field help to shape you for life. My goal as a coach has always been to teach and train young women how to navigate the ups and downs associated with the game of life. It's not always about winning although it is an added bonus. It's about commitment, perseverance, dedication, and teamwork. Each season we are not just preparing  for a State Championship, we are preparing to clear the hurdles of life.
