Scouting Report: Brentwood Academy Boys

Brentwood Academy Eagles

Head Coach: Brad Perry (8th season)

Brentwood Academy is looking for its fifth-straight state championship this spring.

It would also be their 25th in school history. That's 15 more titles than the next closest school.

The Eagles have dominated Division II since it started fielding a team. They have virtually every championship record in the books -- most titles, most consecutive championships, most points at a championship...you get the idea.

This year's team is no different from the past squads that have brought home team titles to Brentwood. On paper, they'll come in as the favorite to win another championship this May.

Coach Perry Says...

"The expectations for our team are fairly straightforward. I would like us to do the best that we can do each day. I believe if we try hard, are willing to be coached and take some risk and if we compete in practice and in meets then we will have a successful season."

Who are your top returners?

Coach Perry: "We have a veteran group of distance runners including: Matthew McMillan, Matthew Porter, George Payne, and Eddie Lunn. In addition, Shane Farrow in the multis and hurdles, Aaron Lovins in the high jump and sprinters Wade Williams and Preston Sagan. Finally Thomas Gore will anchor the throws."

Do you have any impact freshman or incoming transfers?

Coach Perry: "I think that we will have a good group of young sprinters led by Jordan James, Amare Biggers and Amir Annoor. Eli Sutton will be a great addition to our throws crew."

What meets are you keying in on this year?

Coach Perry: "We are such a young team that all of our meets will be important for our guys to get experience. The Scott Hartman relays will be a great early season gage of where we are as a team. We love to compete at the Doug Hall Relays at MBA and of course our own Charlie Harper Relays will bring together some of the best teams in the area in late April as well."

How has your preseason training been going?

Coach Perry: "Despite the poor weather, I believe we have had an excellent training period in the winter and preseason."

What's the most important thing you want young people to learn through running/track and field?

Coach Perry: "I believe that the beauty of track and field is that you can seek to achieve individual goals very much in a team setting. That being said the team always comes first and we often ask our young men to sacrifice maximizing a time in one event in order to run another event that may have a larger impact on the team as a whole."

Have you set any goals as a team?

Coach Perry: "We want to win but ultimately, the only thing I am going to ask of myself, our other coaches and the young men on the teams is "did you do your best?" That really is our goal each day."
