Brodey Hasty Runs No. 4 All-Time Indoor Mile 4:00.05 At Millrose Games

He was agonizingly close.

But if there's any consolation from Brodey Hasty's superb performance in the men's invitational mile field on Saturday at the Millrose Games in New York, finishing fifth overall in 4:00.05, it's that the Brentwood (TN) Track Club's future at the distance looks remarkably bright.

Hasty, a University of Oregon signee, was paced throughout the race by four others who broke 4 minutes on the famed Armory track. He ran the fourth fastest mile effort indoors, was the third fastest individual to run the mile indoors, and now owns the No. 11 best effort all-time. It was also his career best performance, eclipsing his 4:01.75 from last June's Festival of Miles outdoors.

Eric Avila won in 3:57.45.

Hasty was coming off back-to-back weeks at the distance, producing an effort of 4:03.26 at the Dr. Sander Invitational in another professional field last week at the Armory.

Here are Hasty's splits:

  • 30.93
  • 29.91 (1:00.84)
  • 29.86 (1:30.70)
  • 30.03 (2:00.72)
  • 30.24 (2:30.96)
  • 29.49 (3:00.44)
  • 29.72 (3:30.16)
  • 29.89 (4:00.05)

Hasty will likely move on from the distance as he looks to defend his 2-mile title at New Balance Nationals Indoor.

His performance was just a shade faster than that of La Salle (RI) Academy graduate DJ Principe a year ago at the New Balance Games, when he went 4:00.97.

Boys High School Mile

Bishop Shanahan (PA) High's Josh Hoey won the boys high school field in 4:07.42, taking over in the final 400 meters to out kick Brentwood (TN) Track Club's Scott Thompson, who finished in 4:10.63, and Loudoun Valley (VA) High's Sam Affolder (4:10.97) and York's (PA) Dalton Hengst (4:12.98).

Hoey split 29.83 and 28.13 over his last two laps on the Armory, taking the lead after Hengst pushed to the front and held the pace for much of the distance.

Hoey, another Oregon signee, set his career best at the mile indoors with the performance, cutting about a second from his 4:08.59 from New Balance Nationals Indoors last year.

Hoey moved to U.S. No. 2, while Thompson went to U.S. No. 3, Affolder went to U.S. No. 4 and Hengst went to U.S. No. 5.
