CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksville is excited to welcome the first Tennessee Middle School State Track and Field Championships held at Austin Peay State University’s Fortera Stadium on Saturday, May 21.

Four sectionals are held in Murfreesboro, Chattanooga, Greenville, and Memphis as qualifiers to advance to the state championship. Over 600 participants are expected to converge in Clarksville where they will compete in four field events and ten track events to win the title of Tennessee State Champion.

“The TMSAA is thrilled to have the first Middle School State Track Meet at Austin Peay State University and in Clarksville. I know that the city of Clarksville and APSU will do a wonderful job in hosting this special event,” said Richard McWhirter, TSSAA Assistant Executive Director. “The best track athletes in the state will be competing in Clarksville and I think the community should be proud to host this event.”

The field events will kick off at 10am on Saturday, May 21, 2016. The track events will begin at 4pm.
“Hosting the very first Middle School State Track and Field Championship is a great opportunity for Clarksville to showcase our hospitality and amenities,” said Theresa Harrington, Executive Director of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We want to provide visitors with a lasting memory and encourage a return visit whether for a sporting event, vacation or as a future Austin Peay student.”

Admission is $6 for High School Students to Adult and $3 for Elementary and Middle School Students. Spectators are encouraged to come out and watch the finest middle school track and field athletes vie for a medal. The APSU Fortera Stadium is located on the corner of Marion and Drane Street.
