Mark Reeves, Matthew Gillespie to assume position of Assistant Executive Director
HERMITAGE- - -With the recent retirement of Mr. Bob Baldridge, and the pending full-retirement of Mr. Gene Beck, Mark Reeves of Springfield was recently hired as a new Assistant Executive Director. At the March Board of Control meeting, Matthew Gillespie of Murfreesboro was named to the same position.
Mark Reeves, 33, comes to TSSAA from East Robertson High School in Cross Plains, where he has been assistant principal for the past two years. He also served in that same role at Springfield High School from 2004-2006. He received his bachelor’s degree from the Univeristy of Tennessee at Martin in 1997 and his Master’s in Education from Trevecca Nazarene University in 2001.
He participated in football, wrestling, baseball, and tennis in high school and in soccer at the club level.
Mr. Reeves was the head wrestling coach at Springfield High School for nine years and the assistant football coach for four years. He also worked with the cross-country and track programs. As an administrator, Mark has served as host and tournament director for numerous district and regional tournaments and meets.
Mark will be responsible for the sports of football, wrestling, track & field, and soccer. He will also be responsible for the administration of TSSAA rules and regulations on a daily basis.
Mark lives in Springfield with his wife Jill and their two sons, Garrett (3) and Connor (1).
Matthew Gillespie, 31, will assume the role of Assistant Executive Director in January of 2009. Matthew has been on staff at the TSSAA since 1999. He is a native of Murfreesboro and received his bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 1998.
Matthew first started work with the state office as an intern from May through December of 1998. Since joining the staff full-time, Matthew has been responsible for media relations, state records, the TSSAA News, administration of TSSAA rules and regulations, and the administration of the sport of bowling. He will now assume the duties of all printing, assistance with the football playoffs, and will represent the TSSAA with the Tennessee State Legislature, Tennessee State Board of Education, State Department of Education, and other organizations.
Matthew lives in Murfreesboro with his wife Mary Elizabeth and their two children, Holt (3) and Cari Beth (1).
