Union runs to first-ever Women's Cross Country Championship

Birmingham, Ala.—Union University captured its first-ever Gulf South Conference Championship Trophy at Veteran's Park on Saturday and will serve as the 2014 Women’s Cross Country Champions.
 
Union won the 2014 Gulf South Conference Championship in its first year of eligiblity with a total time of 1:38:50:54 (63 points). West Florida earned second place honors with a 1:39:21.07 (92 points), while West Alabama (1:39:54.86, 101 points) made up the Top 3. The rest of the field played out with fourth-place Alabama Huntsville (1:40:23.31, 120 points), followed by Valdosta State (1:40:59.82, 122 points), Shorter (1:42:10.68, 131 points), North Alabama (1:41:37.49, 138 points), West Georgia (1:42:52.12, 164 points), Christian Brothers (1:48:40.72, 225 points) and Delta State (1:47:59.70, 236 points).
 
UWF senior Kelley Bahn earned GSC Runner of the Year with a time of 18:44.95 and VSU's Tyra Holloway took home GSC Freshman of the Year honors with a time of 19:12:57.
