Montgomery Central, RHS runners compete at state

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The cross country season came to a close as Montgomery Central’s boys and Rossview’s girls competed as a team in its classifications during the TSSAA State Cross Country Championships Saturday at the Steeplechase at Percy Warner Park in Nashville.

The Indians competed in the boys’ A/AA race while the Lady Hawks took part in the girls’ 3A race. Rossview finished 17th out of 24 teams with 435 points while Morristown West captured the girls’ 3A state team title with 51 points. Houston (124) finished second, followed by Ravenwood (142), Brentwood (175) and Hardin Valley Academy (212).

Montgomery Central’s boys’ team finished 20th with 480 points. Hume Fogg took the boys’ team title in A/AA.

The Indians’ Charles Fisher had a top 40 finish. He took 36th in a time of 18:08 while Rossview’s Brooke Kowalski had the top finish among all Clarksville-area female runners. She finished 61st in a time of 20:53.

Clarksville Academy’s Bailey Foote finished 65th in the Class A/AA race. She finished in a time of 23:01 and Montgomery Central’s Alura Endres took 76th in a time of 23:26.

Signal Mountain captured the team state title in the A/AA girls’ race.

Northwest’s Sierra Howardson took 76th in a time of 21:13 in the girls’ 3A meet.

The Lady Hawks, who advanced to its third straight state meet, also had five other runners that participated in the race. Anna Grose took 91st in a time of 21:31. She was followed by Sara Martin (111st; 22:06), Rachael Jameson (124th; 22:36), Melanie Shadix (126; 22:39), Gabby Rueff (144th; 23:15) and Anna Thomsen (145th; 23:19).

Meanwhile, Fisher’s teammates had strong races as well as Central took part in its second straight state meet as a team. Joseph Bryce Mishoe took 115th in a time of 19:18 and was followed by Zach Norfleet (125th; 19:34), Joseph Redman, (150th; 20:09), Josh Jackson, (160th; 20:39), Connor Hill (173rd; 21:09) and Garrett Austin (177th; 21:22).
