Men Finish Eighth, Women 15th at Conference USA Championships

DENTON, Texas - Paul Sakit finished 15th overall to help lead the Louisiana Tech men’s cross country team to an eighth place finish at the Conference USA Championships on Saturday morning in Denton, Texas.

Sakit secured the 15th overall spot by finishing the 8K course in 25:54.87. Following right behind Sakit were Anthony Plourde, who finished 31st overall, and Taylor Ashton, who finished 42nd overall, with times of 26:36.45 and 26:53.06, respectively. Rounding out the scoring for the Bulldogs were Josh Pearce and Tom Stringer who finished 61st and 63rd with times of 27:23.49 and 27:29.54, respectively.

“I thought the guys ran well today,” head coach Gary Stanley said. “Most of them had the fastest times of their lives and Paul Sakit was named third team all-conference. Conference USA is a very strong cross country conference; however with no seniors on our squad I think our future is very bright.”

The women were led by Mary Kate Hays who finished 89th overall on the 5K course with a time of 23:17. Behind Hays were Jayde Hughes and Alexis Young who finished with times of 23:17.68 and 24:50.66, respectively. Rounding out the scoring for LA Tech were Taneka Henderson and Diamond Every who finished back to back with times of 24:50.79 and 24:50.94.

Next up for select student-athletes is the NCAA South Central Regional Championships on Nov. 15 in Waco, Texas.
