Milligan and Science Hill to host second annual Johnson City Invitational Press Release Milligan College Dec 28, 2011

 

Milligan College, Tenn. (Dec. 7, 2011) --- Milligan College has teamed up with Science Hill High School to host the second annual Johnson City Invitational track and field meet on March 30-31, 2012. The event will be hosted once again at Science Hill’s Kermit Tipton Stadium. 

 

   “We are pleased to be teaming up with Science Hill to once again be bringing an excellent event to our area,” Milligan Vice President of Student Development Mark Fox said. “The event will feature many of the top local athletes, and we hope it will continue to grow.”

 

Stephenson chooses Milligan cross country Press Release Milligan College Dec 15, 2010

 

 The Milligan College Lady Buffs cross country team has received a commitment from Paxton Stephenson for the 2011-12 recruiting class. Head Coach Chris Layne made the announcement.

 

   Stephenson, a senior at North Putnam High School in Roachdale, Tenn., has a personal best 5K time of 20:57. She has been named to the All-WCC team for two years in addition to being named to the All-County team. Stephenson is also a member of the North Putnam basketball and volleyball teams.

Sullivan South’s Patten commits to Milligan Press Release Milligan College Dec 02, 2010

 Milligan College, Tenn. (Sept. 23, 2010) --- Sullivan South standout Mackenzie Patten has committed to run for the nationally ranked Milligan College Lady Buffs cross country team. Head Coach Chris Layne made the announcement.


   Patten finished 54th at the 2009 AAA Tennessee State Cross Country Championships with a time of 21:39, after finishing 8th at the Region 1 Cross Country Championships in a personal best 21:38. Patten also finished 9th at last year’s Big 8 Conference Championship. She also owns a personal best time of 21:17 for 3 miles.

  Milligan College, Tenn. (Jan. 26, 2009) --- Milligan College Head Coach Chris Layne announced the addition of seven male distance runners to the 2009-2010 cross country and track and field squads late last week. 

  Osceola High School's Jeffrey Surran (Kissimmee, Fla.), Greeneville High School's Matt Murphy (Greeneville, Tenn.), and Daniel Boone's Justin Little (Gray, Tenn.) highlight the list of commitments for Milligan's men, who finished 16th at the 2008 NAIA Cross Country National Championships after not cracking the top 25 national rankings all season long. 

Running Buffs, Lady Buffs start off 2009 Press Release Milligan College Jan 17, 2009

 The Milligan College men's and women's track and field teams ran in the Appalachian State University (Boone, N.C.) Indoor Meet on Saturday.  The Buffs took down a school record in the process. 


 In the field events, freshman Tanner Payne (Georgetown, Tenn.)
 set the school’s shot put record at 11.20 meters (38 feet 1 ½ inches) replacing Justin Westerman’s 36”8.75’ throw. SeniorJamal Phelps (Chicago, Ill.) also did well for the Buffs jumping to sixth place in the triple jump with a 43”6.5’.

 The Milligan College cross country teams will host the 2008 Appalachian Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships at Sycamore Shoals on Saturday, Nov. 8.  The men’s 8K race kicks off the event at 9:15 a.m., while the women’s 5K follows at 10:15 a.m. 

Haston's signs with Milligan College Press Release Milligan College May 15, 2008

 Milligan College, Tenn. (May 14, 2008) --- David Crockett High School senior Justin Haston (Jonesborough, Tenn.) announced this week he will compete for the Buffaloes of Milligan College starting next Fall.

A multiple all-conference and All-State jumper and sprinter, Haston owns a personal best of 41-11.5, and also competes in the long jump.

"Justin is an all-around athlete and he has just scraped the surface of what he can do in the jumps," said head coach Chris Layne. He also owns a 200 meter best of 22.9 seconds.

Lady Buffs sign Knoxville Press Release Milligan College Apr 04, 2008

 Knox Karns senior Gillian Giffen (Knoxville, Tenn.) announced this week she'll compete for MilliganCollege in both cross country and track and field starting this Fall.

 

Giffen, who finished in the top 20 at the 2007 Tennessee State Cross Country Champs, was a two-time All-Metro, three-time all K.I.L., and four-time All-Region performer in cross country for coach Erin Chady.  She owns a 5k personal best of 19:42 from the 2007 Foot Locker South Regional. On the track, she owns a two-mile best of 11:57 set this past indoor season at the University of Kentucky.

 

Virginia All-State standout Hall signs with Lady Buffs Press Release Milligan College Mar 12, 2008

 Milligan College, Tenn. (Mar. 12, 2008) --- Milligan College head coach Chris Layne announced this week that Pulaski Country (Va.) senior Sabrina Hall (Pulaski, Va.) has signed with the Lady Buffs.

 

Hall is having an outstanding senior season for Cougar head coach Jamie McCarty after earning a top ten finish at the 2007 Virginia State Cross Country Championships. She recently finished 5th in the mile at the Virginia Indoor State Championships with a personal best time of 5:17 and also earned All-State honors in the two-mile. She owns a 5k best of 18:32 and a two-mile best of 11:36.

 The Buffs and Lady Buffs enter the 2008 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Indoor National Track and Field Championships with 12 athletes competing. Rebecca McDowell (MechanicsvilleVa.) (5,000 meters), Jacklyn Talbert (Mt. CarmelTenn.) (Mile / Distance Medley Relay), Brittany Bales (KingsportTenn.) (1,000 meters / Distance Medley Relay), and MacKenzie LaBonte (Port CharlotteFla.) (3,000 meters / Distance Medley Relay) return to take on the nation in the same event that brought them All-American status last year. 

Hawkins to compete for Milligan College Press Release Milligan College Jan 23, 2008

 

David Crockett senior Brendan Hawkins  (Limestone, Tenn.) announced this week he'll run for the Buffaloes of Milligan College next Fall. 

 Hawkins, a cross country All-Conference and All-Region performer for Coach Mike Sweeney, finished 45th at the 2007 Tennessee State Cross Country Championships in Nashville.  He has also received All-Conference honors on the track during both his sophomore and junior seasons.

The Milligan College women's cross country team remained in the no. 2 spot in this weeks national poll released Wednesday by the NAIA. 

 

For the second week in a row, Canada's Simon Fraser University is the no. 1 ranked team with 208 points, followed by Milligan with 195 points. California's Asuza Pacific University moved up two spots to join the Lady Buffs in the no. 2 spot with 195 points.
