EIGHT TO JOIN THE TSSAA HALL OF FAME AT ANNUAL INDUCTION CEREMONIES APRIL 18 TSSAA Press Release Feb 18, 2015

The 2015 TSSAA Hall of Fame inductees have been selected. Eight new members will be inducted into the TSSAA Hall of Fame at the annual luncheon at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in Murfreesboro on Saturday, April 18, 2015.

Two administrators, three coaches, two officials, and one contributor will be inducted that day to join others in the annual gathering of those selected since the process began in 1982.

Those being inducted at this year's luncheon are: Dan Black, administrator from Bradford; the late V. F. Goddard, administrator from Alcoa; Bob Edens, coach from Lewisburg; Charlie Harper, coach from Brentwood; Ernie Smith, coach from Nashville; Doug Dennett, official from Hixson; James Herbert, official from Memphis; and Wanda Belt, contributor from Madison.

TSSAA Heat Policy - Modifications for Cross Country Competition when the Heat Index is 95°-104°

Athletes should have access to unlimited water before and after competition. Athletes should be monitored closely for signs of heat illness following the conclusion of the competition. Athletes should be encouraged to re-hydrate and seek shade as soon as the competition is complete.

Voted to accept proposed four year contract extension from the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce to host the BlueCross Spring Fling.  The current contract for both events goes through 2013.  This will extend both events through the 2016-17 school year.

BlueCross Spring Fling℠ begins in Murfreesboro next week, when 4,200 student athletes will compete for state titles in baseball, softball, soccer, tennis and track and field. This year, BlueCross is inviting fans to show their school spirit on Twitter, by playing Tweet Your Team. 

 

Tweet Your Team is a social media contest that encourages fans to get out their phones and cheer on their favorite school on Twitter.  Participants will be playing for a chance to win their school a $1,000 donation from BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee.

The TSSAA Board of Control and Legislative Council will both meet this week in Murfreesboro.
Both meetings will take place at the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce building located at 3050 Medical Center Parkway, Murfreesboro, TN 37129.
 
The Board of Control will meet on Tuesday, March 13 at 2:00 p.m.
The Legislative Council will meet on Wednesday, March 14 at 8:00 a.m.

Cross Country Update 

Please review information pertaining to cross country in the 2011-12 TSSAA Handbook.  You may, also, access this at TSSAA.org  As voted by the coaches and approved by the TSSAA Board of Control, the State Cross Country Meets will be 5 Kilometers (3.1 Miles).  The regional meets shall be 3 Miles or 5 Kilometers.

This unique partnership provides an opportunity for the TSSAA and SUDIA to promote a healthy lifestyle, 

which includes enjoying three servings of low-fat or fat-free dairy each day as recommended by the U.S. 

Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

RICHARD McWHIRTER NAMED NEW ASSISTANT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TSSAA Press Release Sep 09, 2010

 

Richard McWhirter of Clarksville has been named to the position of Assistant Executive Director with the TSSAA. He comes to TSSAA after serving as the Activities Coordinator for the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System for the past five years.  He will oversee the sports of Track & Field and Football.

New Concussion Policy Effective This Year TSSAA Press Release Jul 22, 2010

 

The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association is implementing a new concussion policy that all member schools must follow beginning with the 2010-11 school year.  The TSSAA Board of Control passed the policy unanimously during a conference call on Wednesday, July 21, 2010.
