Our season preview series rolls on with the top boys teams to watch in Division 1 Large Schools.
We're expecting a tight race all season.
Last year's state champion, Siegel High School, will certainly be in the mix again this year. The Stars are led by Canaan Anderson and Tucker Moss, who are both likely to be All-State finishers. Anderson ran a season-best of 16:21 last year, which puts him 15th coming into this season. Moss ran 16:23 in 2017.
Siegel's young nucleus will put them right at the top all year.
But it's Daniel Boone who takes the top spot to start the season.
Senior Chance Bowman comes into the season as the seventh-fastest runner in the division. He'll be gunning for sub-16 this season. His season best last year was 16:04. Boone has the fastest average time of anyone in the division at 16:39. Their top five is rounded out by Matt Huff, Mason Lewis, Max Austin and Graydon Hull based on last year's times. Austin Galloway has also run 17:15 this season.
But there are probably four or five teams who could win the state championship in this division.
Farragut is led by Nathan McFall, who will be in the running for a top-ten finish. Cameron Moore and Isaac Reimer make Independence a threat as well with their front pack.
Five teams -- Daniel Boone, Siegel, Farragut, Independence and Franklin have an average below 17 minutes entering the season. It'll be a fun battle all season long.
