Raines to run with Lady Buffs

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 26, 2006) --- Happy Valley High School senior and two-sport standout Shanna Raines signed to run with the Lady Buffs of Milligan College Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier this spring, Raines was named the Female Sprint DSL Scholar-Athlete of the Week and was also a standout on the Lady Warrior basketball team. She's a four-time All-Watauga Conference and All-Region 1-A/AA selection for Happy Valley and is a co-captain this season.

"Shanna is a true student-athlete, and we're very proud she's decided to continue her running career at Milligan College," said Milligan head coach Chris Layne.

Raines, who helped Happy Valley to the runner-up team spot at the 2003 A/AA TSSAA Cross Country meet with a 39th place individual finish, carries a 4.0 grade point average. She is a member of FCA, and the National Honor Society. She chose Milligan College over AAC foe King College.

While at Happy Valley, Raines was coached by Scotty Verran and Don Verran. She will join former high school teammate Kortney Goulds on the track and cross country teams at Milligan.

Shanna's parents are Robert and Linda Raines of Johnson City, Tenn. and she plans on pursuing a degree in communications while at Milligan.

Raines will join the 2005 AAC and Region XII champion Lady Buffs' cross country team. The Lady Buffs' cross country team is coming off a tenth place finish at the NAIA National Championship last season.
