Lady Govs track and field set to compete in TSU Invite

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Austin Peay State University women's track and field team travels to Nashville this weekend to compete in the TSU Invite, Saturday, at Wilma Rudolph Indoor Track.

"We look to build on what we started last week," said head coach Doug Molnar. "We have a limited indoor schedule, so we have to take advantage of every opportunity we have and improve every week."

Of the utmost concern for Molnar is the improvement of senior pole vaulters Carrie Burggraf and Molly Bartkiewicz, who both provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor championships two weeks ago at the Niswonger Invitational, but need to improve their rankings (both currently stand at 22nd in the country) to solidify their places in the championships. The pair each reached a school-record mark of 4.00 meters (13-01.50).

"We look forward to hopefully seeing both of them improve from two weeks ago," said Molnar. "They both had a great week of practice and should be ready to go."

The Lady Govs also look to see some improvement on the track this weekend, with junior Chiamaka Obi making her debut in the 800-meter run. The Lady Govs will also use this weekend to get a feel for the track, since Tennessee State is hosting the Ohio Valley Conference Championships, Feb. 25.

"We've looked really good in practice this week and just need it to carry over to the meet," said Molnar.
