Men's Cross Country

Cross-country teams place seventh at Sewanee

Austin Peay State University men and women's cross country teams each brought home seventh-place finishes from the Sewanee Cross Country Invitational, Saturday, at the Sewanee Golf Course. The men ran and 8k race, while the women ran a 5k.

"We ran about right," said head coach Doug Molnar. "Effort was there, we just haven't done any speed work, we have just been doing strength work, but we did about how I thought we would do. Not too bad overall though.

Sophomore Enock Langat led the Govs with a 22nd-place finish (27:33.15), followed by sophomore Andre Braima in 25th (27:37.70) and freshman Conner Kessler in 28th (28:24.44).

On the women's side, sophomore Janelle Avery recorded a top-20 finish coming in at 19th (20:23.33), followed by freshman Shamai Larsen finished 37th (21:05.04).

"Janelle ran a real nice race," Molnar said. "She was a little too relaxed early and I think she gave it away. They ran pretty even splits. Her and Shamai both got off to slow starts, but covered some ground about halfway through. Not too bad overall, but we'll definitely get better."

Austin Peay returns to action at the Vanderbilt Invitational, Sept. 19, in Nashville. That race will be held at the site of the Ohio Valley Conference championship race.
