East TN State XC: Top Teams and Runners

Top Teams

University School of Johnson City -- Boys D1 Small Schools Champion

University School capped off a fantastic season with a big win on Saturday, upsetting team favorites Signal Mountain. Porter Bradley led the way with a 16:42 for second place. Blake Ryan (pictured above) led the charge behind him, finishing fifth with a 17:29.

Despite a two minute gap between its first and fifth runners, University School of Johnson City had the best team average of anyone in the division. Their 18:03 was 12 seconds faster than L&N Stem Academy.

Hayden Charles, Nick Daniel and Thomas Johnson all had big days to help their team. Their contribution in the three-through-five role made the difference.

Webb School of Knoxville -- Girls DII Small Schools Champion

This will sound familiar.

Webb's girls had another fantastic day at the State Meet. Again.

Make it seven in a row for the Spartans, who wrapped up another team title on Saturday at Steeplechase. Webb put three in the top four, led by Narayani, Lindsay Holliday and Taylor Cosey. Kamryn Krishnan and Caroline Ross rounded out the top five, ending the team competition before the last All-State runner had crossed the line.

Not too shabby.

Signal Mountain -- Girls D1 Small Schools Champion

Led by Mattie Parker, Signal Mountain came in as the heavy favorite in D1 Small Schools. They carried through with ease.

Signal scored 44 points, led by Parker (2nd -- 19:53) and Tara Jessen (3rd -- 20:34). By putting two in the top three, the Eagles made it tough on the competition to battle back.

The pack of Kelsey Thompson, Gracen Glover and Molly Welch finished the job. Not only is this team excellent, but they're young. Look out for these girls in the future.
