Tamari Davis Drops 22.55 In 200 Final At USATF Jr. Olympics

Tamari Davis isn't finished with her 2018 season just yet.

The Gainesville (FL) High School athlete ran 22.55 (+1.4) seconds in the 200m at the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships on Saturday in Greensboro, North Carolina, to win the girls 15-16 division.

That time, while incredible, still isn't her PR. She ran 22.48 (+1.9) seconds in May at the Florida Class 3A Championships, securing the third fastest time in prep history.

The USATF Championship in the 200m represents a new national record at the event. It also marked the second time she has run under 23 seconds at 15 years old in 2018.

Kayla Davis, of Run U Express, was second overall in 23.34, which tied her career best. Georgia athlete Kimberly Harris, who recorded the third fastest 400m time in the country over the spring for Buford (GA) High School, was third in 23.39.

Beyond the girls 15-16 division, the 200m was very fast.

Zachary (LA) High School sophomore Sean Burrell won the boys 15-16 division in 20.85 seconds. Alexa Rossum won the girls 17-18 division in 23.65 seconds. And Joseph Fahnbulleh, a rising senior for Hopkins (MN) High School, ran remarkably well to win the boys 17-18 division in 20.69 (+0.9) seconds.

That effort could go down as the No. 8 fastest time in 2018. It also represents a nearly 0.6 second PR for Fahnbulleh, who won a state title in Minnesota back in June in 21.35 seconds.
