Pearl Cohn, East Nashville Win Week's First Titles

Pearl Cohn junior Elijah Simmons scored twenty points for the Firebirds before noon. And that was a big boost for their chances of winning the team championship.

Simmons didn't throw his best in either event, but he said he was just pleased to help out his team as they competed for the title.

East Nashville field event specialist Jalena Curbeam had a similarly stellar start. The long jump specialist brought home 28 points with a first place finish in the long and triple jumps followed by a second place in the high jump.

The Eagles were well on their way to victory at that point.

Brainerd senior Joseph Norwood had a dramatic victory on the boys triple jump. The MTSU football signee saved the best for last, winning by a half inch on his final jump.

That one centimeter made the difference for the Chattanooga native. He talked about his excitement with us afterwards.
