NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lee University men's cross country team participated in its second event of the season with a trip to the Commodore Classic where the Flames finished first and set a new school record. The squad will have a couple weeks off before traveling to Louisville, Ky., on October 4 for the Greater Louisville Classic.

In the men's 8K race, Lee had four runners among the first 11 non-DI athletes to cross the finish on its way to a team score of 43. Harding University was second with 79 points and Trevecca Nazarene University was third (83). Gulf South Conference foe Union University placed sixth with 154 points.

The top five finishers for the Flames all recorded personal bests and helped to set a new school record for average team time. The squad averaged 26:03 to eclipse the previous standard of 26:32 had stood since 2009.

Harold Smith finished 34th among 242 combined DI and non-DI runners with a time of 25:38.98. Seth Eagleson had a time of 25:57.11 (52nd) and Tyler Boone was 56th (26:00.47). Terris Elliott was 75th (26:19.69), Joseph Crook 88th (26:33.19), Camden Perez placed 96th (26:46.49) and Nick Eckert was 142nd (27:40.70).

Smith, Eagleson and Boone finished third, seventh and ninth among the non-DI runners. Elliott placed 11th and Crook was 13th, while Perez (18th) and Eckert (33rd) rounded out Lee's scoring line.

Emmanuel Kipchumba had a mark of 27:57.88 (157th) and Adam Gullette's time of 28:38.14 put him in 176th.

"I'm incredibly impressed with the way our men ran today," said Lee head coach Caleb Morgan. "They ran as well today as we had hoped they would run in late October.  Our top three finishers are underclassmen and the top two are true freshmen. The rest of the season will be exciting to see them develop."
