CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga cross country teams will hit the road for the Commodore Classic hosted by Vanderbilt University Saturday morning at Percy Warner Park in Nashville, Tenn. The men's 8K race will begin at 10 a.m. Eastern time followed by the women's 5K at 11 a.m.
Chattanooga will be one of 29 schools competing that includes 17 Division I schools. Apart from host Vanderbilt, SEC schools Mississippi and Mississippi State will be in the pack. Other teams include Louisville, Memphis, former Southern Conference foe Davidson as well as current SoCon member Samford. The Mocs will see Alabama State, Bryan, Lee, Middle Tennessee and Tennessee State for a second straight week.
Junior Teghan Henderson (Pickering, Ontario) defended her PowerAde Invitational last week in the Mocs season-opener and led Chattanooga to six dual wins including a 23-34 win over Tennessee. Henderson was named the SoCon Runner of the Week as well as the league's Student-Athlete of the Week for her performance in the classroom.
Senior John Gilpin (Nashville, Tenn.) finished in the top 10 and led the Mocs to five dual meet victories out of six. He ran the 5K course in a time of 15:51.
The Saturday morning forecast calls for cloudy to mostly cloudy skies with temperatures in the mid to upper 60s and no chance for rain.
